Suppression

Suppression takes care of the people who don't want to receive emails from your side or those you don't want Mumara to send emails whether they exist in your contact lists. Every email address that is found in the suppression table will not receive any email from the system at any cost. So, in short, it bypasses the email delivery to the people that exist in the suppression list and keeps them silent.

There are certain criteria on which a recipient can be suppressed.

Suppression Type	Description
Email Suppression	Suppress any email address by adding to the suppression list or import a list of all emails to be suppressed
Domain Suppression	Suppress all recipients based on domain names. e.g adding gmail.com makes sure that none of the recipients having an email address on Gmail will not receive an email.
IP Suppression	Suppress an IP address, IP range, or a full subnet to suppress all those recipients who have performed any activity from these IPs in past. e.g if a person has opened an email from an IP 192.168.0.1 and this IP has found in the suppression list, this user will not receive any further email.

Global or List-Based Suppression

During suppression, you'll find two options i.e add to global suppression or associate to a list.

Global Suppression: If the contacts are added to global suppression, it means they will not receive an email from the system and it doesn't matter which lists were selected while scheduling the broadcast.
List-Based Suppression: If you select a list chosen while suppressing the contacts, it means these people will not receive the emails from you only if a broadcast has been sent to this specific list. However, if these contacts exist in other lists, emails will be delivered to them if you schedule a broadcast to those lists.

Email Suppression

Email suppression is where you can add/import the email addresses to suppress them directly from receiving any further email. Below is a sample snapshot of the suppression list

Table Columns

Email: The email address that has been suppressed
Reference: Reference of the email address to remember why it was suppressed
Contact List: Either it was suppressed globally or associated with a contact list
User: The user that has added the email to suppression
Added on: Date when this email address was suppressed
Actions: Either remove a single email address from suppression or remove all email addresses from suppression that have the same reference

Add an Email to Suppression

On the Email Suppression page, click on the [Add New] button.

Select List: Here you can decide whether to add/import the email(s) to suppression globally to select a contact list to associate with.
Add Emails: The email address(es) to be added to the suppression
- Upload a CSV file: This option lets you import your CSV file containing the list of email addresses
- Select a file from server: You can upload the CSV file to /storage/users/userid/files/imports/suppression folder and then select it here. This option is feasible to import larger files
- Write/paste email addresses: Alternatively, you can paste the email addresses separate by new line
Reference: Put any reference name here so you remember why exactly you've suppressed these emails

Domain Suppression

Block/Suppress all those domains that you don't want to send emails. In most cases, people need to suppress all those domains that are generating a high number of complaints or the domains that are not performing good ROI for you.

The process and options of adding domains to the suppression list are similar to what you have read above for the email suppression. So any domain that you add to the suppression list, none of the recipients will receive the email from your side that has the email address created on that domain. Upon removal of the domain from the suppression list, these people will again start receiving further emails.

IP Suppression

Suppress email addresses by adding their engaged IP addresses to the suppression. If you add an IP address to the suppression, Mumara will look into geo-tracking details of the contacts before starting a broadcast and will skip those contact that has a previous activity with that IP address. For example, if a person has clicked on a link or has opened an email sent by you from an IP address that was added to the suppression list, this contact will not receive any further email from your side.

The process of adding IP addresses to the suppression list is similar as described above. Moreover, you can add a range of IP addresses and subnets in the following format

Range: 192.168.0.0-255
Subnet: 192.168.0.0/24
